Losing Those Pounds This Month…

It’s July and it’s the Summer! We have great weather here in Margate Florida and as we all know it’s beach season. However my body isn’t really ready for it. I got into the mode of getting back into shape and while I made some progress I have a ways to go. How am I going to do it? The Summer is already flying by.

Well no matter what time of the year it is, I have to lose this flab! I’m not disappointed in my size I just need to get toned.  How am I going to do it? No not with any “fast weight loss” tricks or starving myself (I really enjoy food).  I’m going to make some lifestyle changes and make an effort to exercise more. Blue Isle Apartments has a Fully-equipped fitness center so why not use it instead of paying for a gym membership?

Here’s how I’m going to lose some of those pounds and tone my body back into shape!

  • Giving up my “hearty” breakfast.  I’m going for fruit, no more bacon and breakfast cereals.
  • Meat 3 Days a Week- We’re not supposed to consume as much meat as we do now. It’s hard on our bodies, 3 meals with meat for the week will suffice.
  • More Greens- Vegetables and Salads. Before I thought I had enough of my greens and when I really think of it, I don’t.
  • No More Processed Foods- If it needs an ingredient list, I’m going to think twice about buying it.
  • Dairy- People everywhere will tell you to have dairy everyday. Nope that does a number on your body also, limit your dairy consumption to 3 days a week.
  • Exercise, Exercise & Exercise- At least 30 minutes a day!!!! Walk, run, dance, I’m getting more active!

I’ve never been one to watch sports, while I can definitely get into watching a game, I’d rather play. There’s something about getting that adrenaline rush of playing a sport. Whether or not you’ll score or if you can defend your opponent well enough it’s great!

On July 31 City of Margate Parks and Recreation will be hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament for anyone that wishes to play (18 yrs. or older)! There will be four divisions for the tournament; 6ft and under, Open, Ages 35 and older, and Women. The cost to participate in the tournament is $80 per team. You’re only allowed to be in a maximum of two divisions.

You can register at either:

Burn Those Calories

Cardio Boxing Group Fitness Class

When you workout 5 days a week and don’t see a difference, you start to lose motivation. Your body is on this plateau, and you’ve started to gain weight. You’re ready to quit…

The thing is, you need to keep going and get out of the rut. Instead of working out and burning 300 calories, it needs to double.

  • Instead of working the lower body, combine the lower and upper body workouts
  • Mix up your walk with shuffles
  • Don’t rest, pump up the cardio between sets and do jumping jacks or front kicks
  • Add extra weight with a weight vest
  • Try drop sets where you go from heaviest to light
  • Increase your weights to sculpt your arms  – it makes a difference  in your workout

Sleeping Cat

Stress = not your friend. Relax is the way to do it! It’s no fun when you finally lay in bed and you can’t relax. Your to-do list gets longer, your mind goes at 9o mph,  and you won’t fall asleep. Don’t get on your email and leave your cell on the nightstand. Here’s a few things that help me fix this problem:

  • Drink tea before you fall asleep (make sure it’s the sleepy kind, instead of caffeinated)
  • A glass of wine
  • Listen to music or white noise (download the white noise app from iTunes)
  • Take a warm bath
  • Read a book (just make sure it’s enjoyable)

What helps you relax and makes it easier for you to sleep at night?

Do you think going on a diet is the best thing for your body- well think again. Now a daysdieting obesity seems to be the leading cause of death in America. It’s not a surprise that majority of Americans looking for a way out turn to dieting to lose weight. However, it seems to be a battle when it comes to being and getting thin. People tend to end up looking for salvation in all the wrong places. Instead of relying on exercise and following the credo “everything in moderation,” people turn to miracle solutions, diet supplements, and calorie deprivation. These diets results lead to short term success as well as cause severe harm to your body over time.

Since the economy has taken a nose-dive, restaurants have taken a big hit. Even fastfood_plate food places like Burger King can’t get as many people to come in for the dollar menu prices as they could before.

I found an article that tells the top five places to go if you would like to get the most bang for your buck! So, when you want to go out to eat, unless you’re really hungry, you’re almost guaranteed to leave with enough food to take with you for your lunch the next day at work!

Laughing Yoga will have you rolling in the aisle.

Laughing Yoga is a simple concept, stress relief through laughter. It lightens your spirit by releasing endorphins. I decided to try this last week and it was a good time. I drove up to Laughter Yoga Circle at 3100 N Park Rd in Hollywood. I felt a little strange at first, you are sitting there laughing like and a crazy person, but towards the end I really got into it.

Will we see you there?
