Hands Across the Sands

Protect the Beaches!

This Saturday, June 26 Hands Across the Sands will be at it again! In hopes to stop dependence on fossil fuels, this organization is once again joining hands across the nation’s beaches, parks and cities to stop the dangers of offshore oil drilling.

Hands Across The Sands was founded back in October of 2009. Dan Rauschkolb the founder organized a statewide event on February 13, 2010. All over Florida people gathered to send a message to their legislators and Governor Crist that they did not want the offshore drilling bans lifted in Florida waters. This Saturday it’s happening again but not only in Florida, all over the nation and the world!

Hands Across The Sand’s mission is to change our energy policy away from its dependence on fossil fuels and into the light of clean energy. The aim is to convince our leaders to abandon expanded offshore oil drilling and adopt policies that encourage clean and renewable energy resources.

This weekend beaches in Ft. Lauderdale are participating, so you can join hands!

Some chicken, pork and corn in the barbeque

Image via Wikipedia

Summertime makes me think of some good ole barbecue. Luckily, we’ve got the best place in Florida, and we’re lucky enough to have it in our hometown. Bar-B-Q Jack’s, family owned business,  has been serving the residents of Margate for years and is honestly the best place to go for some delicious barbecue!

You can dine in,  visit the drive through, pick up, or even have it catered for a party. The hickory smoked meats are to die for and you can choose from: ribs, beef, pork, chicken, and even catfish.

Have you been to Bar-Q-Jack’s?

Party With Green In Mind

Entertain your friends while being eco-friendly at the same time. The next time you throw a bash, keep these green tips in mind:

Ditch paper invitations. You can use websites such as evite.com to create and email invitations. The site also features online RSVPs.

Use seasonally or locally grown foods. You lessen environmental damage when you don’t consume foods that require transportation from factories thousands of miles away. Plus, buying organic and locally grown foods supports sustainable farmers.

Look to nature for decoration inspirations. Fallen branches, sticks and leaves can make a great table setting. Fresh cut flowers from your garden look great in a vase. Or, put a selection of lemons or other citrus fruit in a clear glass bowl and reuse it for juice the next day.
